Far Cry 3 (Updated)

Far Cry 3, from Ubisoft, is a First Person Shooter game for Microsoft Windows-powered Desktop and Laptop computers and Gaming Consoles, including PlayStation 3 (PS3) [2|4] and XBOX 360 [2|4]. It is the upcoming sequel to the 2008 video game Far Cry 2.

Release Date

Far Cry 3 was released on the 29th of November 2012 [1|3].

Features

Fast Travel

Many of my friends were very irritated with the long distances one had to travel in Far Cry 2.

Fortunately one of the new features in Far Cry 3 is the ability to "fast travel" between any two save locations - a real time saver.

Characters

Vaas Montenegro

Vaas is violent and unpredictable - probably because of his substance abuse. He was once a member of the Rakyat, and brother to Citra, but now works for Hoyt Volker, overseeing his very own rag-tag team of "pirates".

Factions

There are three factions:

Vaas's Pirates is a rag-tag outfit, that controls Rook Island, where they rape, pillage and steal whatever they can get their dirty little hands on.

Hoyt's Privateers is a bunch of well-equipped mercenaries, some hailing from various nation state armies, while others were recruited raw.

➢ The Rakyat is native to Rook Island, and opposed to both, Vaas's Pirates and Hoyt's Privateers. They will assist you throughout the game to guard and patrol liberated bases.

Weaponry

Far Cry 3 sports a total of 43 devastating weapons:

➢ 4 Handguns, including the .44 Magnum [8|9] revolver and 6P9 [8|9], D50 [8|9] and M1911 [9] pistols;
➢ 6 Sub Machine Guns, including the A2000 [9], BZ19 [8], MP5 [8|9], Skorpion [9], VZ61 [8] and Vector .45ACP [8];
➢ 3 Launchers, including the RPG-7 [8], GL-94 [8] and Flamethrower [8];
➢ 3 Shotguns, including the M133 [8], SPAS-12 [8], and 1887 [8];
➢ 6 Assault Rifles, including the AK-47 [2|3|8], STG-90 [8], F1 [8], MS16 [8], P416 [8] and ACE [8];
➢ 3 Machine Guns, including the PKM [8], MKG [8] and V100 [8];
➢ 4 Sniper Rifles, including the M-700, R700 [8], SVD [8] and Z93 [8];
➢ 4 Explosives, including C4 [8], Grenades [8], Molotovs [8] and Proximity Mines;
➢ 4 Special Weapons, including the Combat Knife [9], Machete [3|8|9], Recurve Bow [8] and Flare Gun [8];
➢ 5 Signature Weapons, including the AMR, Bull, Bushman, Shadow and Shredder; and
➢ 1 Mounted Machine Gun, including the DShK.

Signature Weapons

The AMR is a customized Z93 Sniper Rifle, enhanced for damage at long distance, sporting a high power scope, extended magazine and custom paint job.

The Bull is a customized M133 Shotgun, enhanced for damage, sporting a custom paint job with enhanced shell capacity.

The Bushman is a customized P416 Assault Rifle, enhanced for accuracy and damage, sporting an optic scope, extended magazine, supressor and custom paint job.

The Shadow is a customized 1911 Pistol, enhanced for accuracy and stealth, sporting a larger magazine, silencer and custom paint job.

The Shredder is a customized Vector .45 ACP Sub Machine Gun, enhanced for accuracy and damage, sporting a reflex sight, suppressor, extended magazine and custom paint job.

Vehicles

Throughout the game, you will have many opportunities to race through foliage, fly over deep canyons and traverse the island with Hang Gliders, Boats [including RHIBs and Patrol Boats], Buggies, Cargo Trucks, Cars [including the Darrah and Stryus], Jeeps [including the Scavenger and Technical], Jet Skis [various colors], Parachutes, Quad Bikes and classified Wingsuits.

Wildlife

The island is filled with more than 20 species of majestic and untamed animals, including Asian Tapirs [including a White Belly Tapir], Bears [including an Asian Black Bear and Undying Bear], a variety of beautiful Birds of Paradise, Boars, Buffalo, Cassowary [including a Yellow Neck Cassowary], Chickens, Crocodiles [including an Albino Crocodile], Deer, Dingoes, Dogs [including a Rabid Dog], Galapagos Tortoises, Goats, Komodo Dragons [including a Blood Komodo], Leopards, Manta Rays, Pigs [various colors], Sea Turtles, Seagulls, Sharks [including a Bull Shark and Maneater], Snakes [various colors], Stingrays, Tigers [including a Sumatran Tiger] and Vultures.

Would have loved the addition of African Lions, Anacondas, Black Mambas, Cobras, Elephants, Giraffes, Ostriches and Rhinos.

Hints, Tips and Tricks

Shark Hunting

In Far Cry 3, there are, of course, many ways in which you can approach shark hunting. But one of my personal favorites is to locate, or hijack, a RHIB ["rubber duck"] with a mounted Machine Gun. Then take it out to sea, searching and gunning down a shark. Then simply dive in and skin it.

Walkthrough

I numbered the sectors horizontally, starting with the first accessible sector, top left.

Sector 6

Following your escape from Vaas, and your rescue by Dennis, you will wake up in Amanaki Town.

To the north of Amanaki Town you will find Heron's Perch.

To the east of Amanaki Town you will find a Radio Tower. There's a small shed right by it containing a crate.

To the east of Heron's Perch you will find a seemingly abandoned settlement.

To the north-east of Heron's Perch you will find an abandoned concrete bunker dating back to the Second World War.

To the north of the bunker you will discover a pirate base at the Welshare Wrecker's House.

Digital Deluxe Edition

Lost Expeditions

The Digital Deluxe and Insane editions of Far Cry 3 includes two Lost Expeditions, namely "Ignition In The Deep" [7] and another, where you can discover the secrets of the island’s lost World War II ruins, and unlock the power of a shotgun and a one-handed flare gun in multiplayer.

Monkey Business

Discover the secrets of the island’s lost World War II ruins in two suspenseful action missions, and unlock the power of a shotgun in a one-handed flare gun in multiplayer.

The Predator

Hunt four ferocious animals with the M-700 Predator Rifle in single-player and silently kill opponents with the unlocked Predator Bow in multiplayer.

The Warrior

Strike fear in your enemies with an exclusive dagger and get an early unlock of the tattoo editor in multiplayer.

Expansions

The Blood Dragon Expansion

"Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is set to launch as an independent digital download on May 1st for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms" [11].

Apparently the 'expansion' will "not require a copy of Far Cry 3 to work" [12].

Strange But True

Vaas's Special Dagger

After you finished recovering the sacrificial dagger, and delivered it to Citra. You then took off to Vaas's island to kill him.

But, right before you get to kill Vaas, he stabbed you with the same type of [if not the very same] sacrificial dagger.

Question: Where did Vaas get that dagger? Did Citra give it to him? Did he have his own one?

Nowhere, before that incident, does Vaas EVER carry, display or use, such a dagger. He is always seen with another.

Jason's Miraculous Survival

Right before Jason seemingly "killed" Vaas, he got stabbed in the heart.

Question: How did he survive a stab to the heart?

Suggestions

Hoyt's Compound

Hoyt's Compound is inaccessible prior to the mission where you get to kill Hoyt.

I attempted to scale the walls by parking a jeep close to it and jumping on top. Turns out it was too high. Acceptable and understandable.

Next, I attempted to para-glide into the compound, but hit a solid invisible wall?! Unacceptable and unreal.

SUGGESTION: If you want to keep players out of the compound: simply insert a barracks that keep re-spawning insanely tough privateers; lock the doors to Hoyt's office; or don't put Gliders within reach of the compound.
